  • Why is the pattern not always the same on my Bona China?
Each piece is decorated using designs from an eclectic mix of unique waterslide motifs. This means no two pieces will be identical and even when you select from a defined collection, there will always be minor signs of variation. This is what makes Bona China distinct and unique and sets it apart from mass produced ware.
  • Why do plates and dishes have slight marks underneath?
These marks are where items have been supported with kiln furniture when fired. Plates and dishes are supported in three spots with pins - this suspends them and prevents them from sticking to each other. In the majority of cases there are no marks at all.
  • What are seconds?
Bona China is handmade and decorated and occasionally slight faults appear in the glaze and pattern. These do not pass our rigorous inspections, and are therefore deemed as seconds. Seconds are sold at a discounted price. Please email us for any current seconds stock.
  • What is the glaze?
The glaze is a specialist finish that is fused to our Bona China ware in the firing process, giving it a durable, protective coat and beautiful semi-gloss finish.
  • What is porcelain (china)?
Porcelain (is a ceramic material made by heating materials, generally including kaolin, in a kiln to temperatures between 1,200 and 1,400 °C (2,200 and 2,600 °F). The toughness, strength, and translucence of porcelain, relative to other types of pottery, arises mainly from vitrification and the formation of the mineral mullite within the body at these high temperatures. Porcelain is also referred to as china or fine china in many English-speaking countries. Subsequent firing of applied artwork is at a lower temperature of 780.
